The National Park of the Cévennes is home to a wide range of imposing birds of prey. We offer a sensitive and attentive approach to their observation in the course of 3 different walks through stunning landscapes. From the vast limestone plateaux of the “Grands Causses” to the Cévenol valleys and Mont Lozère, you will be walking through their natural habitats with the best possible chance to observe a range of species and understand their behaviour. With a specialist Mountain Leader, you will explore these impressive landscapes which have been created by man’s activities over the millennia, in particular by the age-old traditions of pastoralism. As the rock type changes beneath your feet, from limestone, to schist and to granite, so the scenery changes dramatically. This trip will help you understand these diverse landscapes as well as the flora, the fauna and the history !

Guided tour
A naturalist and wildlife holiday, guided by a Mountain Leader specialising in the observation and discovery of the natural environment.
Holiday recommended by the Cevennes National Park under the terms of section 2 of the European Charter of Sustainable Tourism (CETD).
Languedoc Nature has been granted level 3 accreditation of the European Charter of Sustainable Tourism. This distinction has been awarded by the French section of Europarc and applies to tour operators who are committed to the promotion of sustainable tourism in protected environments.
Naturalist stay guided by a mountain guide specialized in bird watching and the discovery of the natural environment.
These 3 days of “discovery walks” will lead you through sites of observation of birds of prey in the very heart of a wide diversity of natural environments: the steppe grasslands of the Grands Causses, the gorges of the Tarn and Jonte, the Cévenol forests and the granite ‘chaos’ rock formations of Mont Lozère.
This means that with a little luck, you may be able to see the 4 species of vultures : the Griffon, the Black (the main European colony of this rare vulture is found here) the Egyptian and the Lammergeier (very recently reintroduced). That is without forgetting the Golden Eagle, the Eagle Owl, Montagu’s Harrier, the Tawny Owl, the Buzzard, the Short-toed Eagle…
Your guide, who knows the region intimately, will help you in the quest for these species by choosing the best environments, the most opportune moments for sightings and will provide you with quality optics to help your observations.

We are all aware of the environmental impact of car and plane travel. Going on holiday represents not an inconsiderable source of emissions of CO2. We therefore highly recommend train travel: the stations of Nimes, Montpellier or Alés are those most local to this holiday. A bus or minibus will allow you to reach your accommodation on the first evening.
